Pedro Rafael Gonzalez Chavajay is the most highly respected of all the living Tz'utuhil Mayan artists of Guatemala. He paints more carefully than any of the other Tz'utuhil artists, and his output is small—perhaps ten paintings a year. Even his small paintings, which take three to seven days to paint, are museum quality. The rich colors of early morning and late evening which he prefers distinguish him from other Tz'utuhil painters. Pedro Rafael's paintings can be bought only through Arte Maya Tz'utuhil.
