| ALMOLONGA, QUEZALTENANGO | ||
| The man, just like the woman,
of Almolonga uses ceremonial dress of an incomparable richness of
decoration. Here we see a male wearing a headdress or tzute, of
fine tie-dyed material; a shirt with a red ground, woven in fine silk,
of a very harmonous coloration, and sui-generis [unique] pants in
a tightly woven cotton material, with brilliant decorations—sometimes of
silk, other times of cotton—in red, turquise or coffee. These pants are
extended and held up by a sash that is highly decorarted in the part
which falls behind.
The man of Almolonga uses a shoe or caite of fine leather, which is in form like that used by the indigenous Chiapanese. Wearing this apparel, he is very beautiful and decorative. By Carlos Merida |
