Enamorados
(Lovers)

The story of this painting, courtship, is explained in Benjamin D. Paul's article "Life in a Guatemalan Indian Village" on this website. The theme, although quite interesting, is rarely painted by the artists. I have only seen the theme done by Domingo Garcia Criado and one other artist. Lorenzo's painting is very naive, but the composition is strong, and the painting is what collectors look for in naive art. The colors are pure and the traje [dress] of San Pedro is very accurately painted. This is my favorite of a couple of Lorenzo's paintings from my personal collection that I am offering for sale. It has been on the wall of my bedroom for the past ten years.
