When
US customs used a box knife to slash open the tube containing this
painting (yes, they could have easily opened the end without damaging
the paintings), they cut through five paintings including this one.
Fortunately the damage to this painting was confined to the unpainted
border—the border used to attach the painting to the stretcher. It
probably can be stretched without losing very little of the painting,
but it will not be in an area
where there are important elements of the painting. It did not harm the
painted part (as shown if you click on the image to the right), but as a result the
price is reduced. |
